Supported by the L. Ron Hubbard Foundation, this project was extremely successful in training the trainers of The Gambia on the basic fundamentals of Mr. Hubbard's study methods so that these could then be implemented and utilised in their respective schools across The Gambia.
In July and August 2001 seminars were conducted to all 5,500+ teachers in The Gambia on Mr. Hubbard's study method. Also in 2001, 48 teachers were trained on the Learning How to Learn Teachers Course which enabled these trainers to effectively train other teachers on the delivery of Mr. Hubbard's Learning How to Learn Course.
In 2002 another project successfully trained and apprenticed 18 Gambian trainers (from all six regions in the country) plus 1 from Sierra Leone on Mr. Hubbard's methods on training so that they were able to competently train their own teachers on the Learning How to Learn Course. There are now 19 trainers utilising Mr. Hubbard's study method in The Gambia including the Head of INSET (In Service Teacher Training), Mr Burama Jammeh. The Project also had these new trainers train 26 additional new students on the Learning How To Learn Course. These additional students were top teachers and headmasters chosen by the regional teachers. They were asked to attend the seminar, registered, trained, and the whole programme was administered by the newly trained teachers.
Additionally, a delegation of 3 educators was brought to The Gambia in coordination with the Ministry of Education of Sierra Leone and Department of State for Education for The Gambia (DOSE). This included a Head Teacher representing the Sierra Leone Teacher's Union; a top government official responsible for the quality of education in that country; and a teacher. They were also trained on Mr. Hubbard's method and found it to be very satisfactory demanding it as a solution for their war-torn country.
The closing ceremony, attended by the Secretary of State for Education and other dignitaries was aired on national TV news that night.
The Senior Education Specialist for Human Development for Africa of the World Bank, and the Admin Secretary for the Christian Children's Fund also attended the closing ceremony of the seminars.
Volunteers worked alongside the Secretary of State for Education of The Gambia, the Permanent Secretary of The Gambia, the Permanent Secretary of The Gambia's Assistant, Head of SQUAD (State Quality Assurance Directorate), Principle Education Officers from every region, the Dir of Planning, Policy Analyses, Research and Budgeting, the Admin Secretary for the Christian Children's Fund (another educational project donor, based in Richmond, Virginia, USA) and a representative from the World Bank.
