Midwives to quiz women on domestic violence

Doctors and midwives are to ask all pregnant women if they have been beaten by their partners as part of a crackdown on domestic violence.

Melanie Johnson, the public health minister, said: "This is an effective means of ensuring that the appropriate support and advice is offered at an early stage and will ensure that help is given to women where and when it is needed."
