4Children is the national organisation promoting high quality opportunities for children young people and families. We believe that the needs and interests of children and families should be at the heart of our society. We are working towards a society where policy and practice should reflect this vision.
For the past twenty years, 4Children (formerly Kids' Clubs Network) has worked closely with Government and others to support the development of out of school opportunities for children and young people. This has led to over 10,000 out of school clubs now operating in England alone; we aim to double this number by 2010.
Developing an Integrated Approach
Drawing on this experience and expertise, we now believe that it is vital for national and local Government, parliamentarians and policy makers, to develop a more strategic, holistic and integrated approach to services for children, young people and families.
We believe that the Government must build on and expand schemes such as children’s centres and extended schools to develop a ‘joined-up’ approach, both locally and nationally, for tackling key social and economic issues such as improving children’s health, reducing youth crime and eradicating child poverty.
