Welcome to the General Social Care Council (GSCC), the first regulator of the social care workforce in England. Our aim is to promote the highest standards in social care for the benefit and protection of people who use social care services, their carers and the general public.

The social care workforce is undergoing its biggest transformation for 30 years. The GSCC is playing a part in this transformation and, as the regulator for the social care workforce, is putting the needs of service users at the heart of everything it does. The GSCC launched the first codes of practice for the workforce in September 2002 and has begun the task of registering the estimated 1.5 million social care workers in England.
