Britain's social divisions exposed

Nearly three-quarters of Britain's poorest children are concentrated in just four cities, according to research by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The study, which will be unveiled at the foundation's centenary conference in York today, shows that 70 per cent of the poorest children are concentrated within the conurbations of London, Glasgow, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
