Alternative Fuels
GM is committed to reducing the environmental impact of all our activities from manufacturing processes to the motor vehicles themselves. We are working towards implementing technologies, which are designed to minimise emissions.
GM has a very focused near, medium and long term programme for alternative fuels. In the near-term the focus is on LPG fuels and Saab BioPower. GM are also investing in Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) which makes petrol engines more efficient by 20% and diesel engines cleaner.
In the mid-term GM are looking towards Hybrid technology which is expected to be introduced to GM’s popular Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon by the end of 2007. On a longer time scale GM is highly advanced in the area of Fuel Cell technology, with concepts such as the Sequel.
