Education

|
The founding vision of the NDCS was 'to further in every way possible the provision of full modern education for all deaf children'.
To this day, equal educational provision for deaf children and young people remains at the heart of our work. All too often provision is inconsistent and varies across the UK.
This is not reasonable, and we urge all politicians and policy makers to influence:
- access to equal education provision and informed choice across all parts of the UK, through a range of well-resourced communication options (including British Sign Language and Welsh) for all deaf children and young deaf people.
- a raised level of expectation amongst education service providers for the educational attainment of deaf children, through fostering positive attitudes towards deafness and placing true value on deaf role models.
- enhanced provision of speech and language therapy, with robust funding and effective training programme for Speech and Language Therapists specialising in the support of deaf children.
