Apply to be a School Improvement Partner
Now is the time to apply to be a School Improvement Partner (SIP). The closing date is 21 October.
ASCL has supported the introduction of the "single conversation" and School Improvement Partners as a contribution to intelligent accountability, in place of the multiple accountabilities and bids that have made so much work for school leaders in recent years. Our support for the SIP process is conditional on the vast majority of SIPs being serving or recently retired school leaders allocated to schools of the type in which they have had experience. We do not want SIPs to be the reincarnation of local authority link advisers, so many of whom have no secondary school leadership experience.
The success of the SIP process depends on lots of heads applying for accreditation as SIPs. The role is interesting in both the contribution that a SIP can make to other schools and the wider knowledge that the SIP brings back to his or her own school. I encourage you to consider applying if you feel that the time commitment of 19 days is realistic in relation to the situation at your own school.
Last year there were problems with the accreditation process, especially with the time allowed, but I have been assured that these problems will not occur again. There will be a longer time period during which the online test can be taken and preparatory materials will be available for those wishing to hone their data analysis skills before the test.
