Howard promises to scrap speed cameras

The Express reports that Michael Howard has vowed to scrap "rip-off" speed cameras.

In the announcement on Wednesday, the Tory leader said only cameras which could be shown to save lives would be kept in place. He also pledged to clamp down on dangerous and uninsured drivers.

He said: "Speed cameras should be there for road safety reasons.  They shouldn't be there to raise revenue. That's not their function."
