New schools funding warning
Council leaders have warned that headteachers face a £200 million shortfall if ministers proceed with changes to the way they fund schools.
Proposals to fund schools directly, reducing the role of local councils, are outlined in the education bill which will be debated by MPs this week.
Alison King, chairman of the Local Government Association's children and young people's board, said the changes will leave pupils and staff with second-rate equipment.
