UDA want £70m to end crime

Loyalist paramilitaries the Ulster Defence Association are reported to be demanding £70 million to end their drug dealing and other criminal activities.

A meeting between the UDA and Downing Street chief of staff Jonathan Powell has been arranged.

Meanwhile, the Conservatives are calling on Tony Blair to drop plans to meet Sinn Fein leaders until they have distanced themselves from organised crime and the £26.5 million Northern Bank robbery.
