Education Bill to favour the 'consumer'

Tony Blair is set to implement major school reforms before the next general election.

The Education Bill, which will be announced in the Queen's Speech next month, will lessen the role of local education authorities and give increased autonomy to schools.

The Times says that the legislation has been seized upon by Alan Milburn, Labour’s general election co-ordinator, as a way of maintaining the government’s "modernising momentum".
