Report backs exam reduction

The number of exams taken by teenagers should be reduced in order to allow more "internal assessment" by teachers, a government working group will tell ministers next month.

The final report from the inquiry into 14-19 education will recommend piloting a national aptitude test in schools and sub-dividing the top grade at A-level into three.
