Ministers pressure tour companies over price hikes

The government is pressuring the travel industry to come up with cheaper deals for family holidays during the peak times of July, August and school half-terms.

At present, variations can be enormous with some charges as much as 170 per cent more in school holidays than during the term.

Ministers want to stop parents taking their children out of school in order to take advantage of cheaper trips.
