IoD backs EU Green Paper on energy policy
Friday 22nd September 2006
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has today backed the European Union's Green Paper on energy policy, which plans to create more dynamic markets across the EU.
Miles Templeman, Director General of the IoD said:
"Many of our 52 thousand members are being affected by increased energy prices as well as concerns about security of supply. Less of a focus on state protectionism of established energy suppliers in some parts of the EU could go some way towards helping create a better deal for business and individual consumers alike".
The IoD has also called for the EU to focus on improving the environment for enterprise rather than making for more rules and regulations. Miles Templeman added:
"Business must be allowed to genuinely compete within the EU as a first step toward tackling global energy and environmental issues. Without successful business it will be hard to make environmental improvements or to keep the lights on".
