THE GOVERNMENT has published proposals to allow more health professionals to prescribe medicines.
Under the plans, physiotherapists, radiographers, chiropodists and optometrists would be able to prescribe medications for such conditions as glaucoma, chronic back pain and the effects of multiple sclerosis, in partnership with a doctor.
“Our proposals will enable more health professionals, working in partner-ship with doctors, to help patients get the right medicine more easily than ever before,” said health secretary John Reid.
The deadline for submissions to the consultation is August 9, with more details available at www.mhra.gov.uk.
