Lords reform will go to free vote
Houses of parliament

Tony Blair has said he will seek a consensus on further reform of the House of Lords.

Addressing journalists at his monthly press conference on Thursday, the prime minister rejected suggestions that completion of the reform process would be low down on his list of priorities.

But Blair indicated that he was still unsure about the final direction that reform would take.

"I want to think very carefully about reform of the House of Lords," he said.

"I am a bit undecided on some aspects of it myself."

The prime minister also told journalists he accepted that reform would need to be done on a free vote.
