Brown picks new team of advisers
Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown has revamped his Treasury team of special advisers.

It was announced on Tuesday that Spencer Livermore and Damian McBride will become the chancellor's special advisers.

Livermore will take on the senior role, replacing Ed Miliband who stepped down from the position to fight the Doncaster North seat for Labour at the general election.

A further vacancy was created by the departure of Ed Balls from the Treasury to fight the Normanton seat.

Both men were elected to the Commons last week, but have not yet entered the government.

Shriti Vadera, Stewart Wood and Michael Jacobs are re-appointed as advisers on a part time basis, while Paul Gregg attends the Council of Economic Advisers.

The new chief secretary to the Treasury, Des Browne, has reappointed Jonathan Ashworth and Cathy Koester as his special advisers.

It was announced McBride's previous position as Treasury head of news will be taken on by Paul Kissack who held the post of head of news.
