Temporary and Agency Workers

Local MP Sandra Osborne is supporting a Private Members Bill to give Temporary and Agency Workers fair and equal treatment. The crucial second reading of the Bill in the House of Commons will take place on Friday 22 February.
Sandra joined agency workers from all over the UK and other Labour MPs outside the House of Commons to support the Bill.
Sandra explained:
“There are at least 1.4 million agency workers in the UK. Some of them are treated well, enjoying the "flexibility" that agency working allows. But many are not, enduring poorer pay and conditions of employment than permanent workers.
We need legislation to ensure that agency workers are treated on the same terms as directly employed workers. Whilst everyone recognises that there is a role for agency workers in the labour market, they should not be used by employers to cut labour costs or erode the hard won pay and conditions of the permanent workforce. Our campaign is seeking to end this practice, and ensure that everyone is entitled to the same rate of pay.”
