Ryanair

Ayr MP Sandra Osborne has welcomed the opening by the Secretary of State for Scotland of the Ryanair Aircraft Maintenance Facility.

She said:

The rising success of Glasgow Prestwick International  Airport is largely due to the strong involvement of Ryanair.  This new development will further enhance that relationship and demonstrates Ryanair’s long term commitment to the airport.’

Referring to comments by Ryanair Chief Executive, Mr Michael O’Leary regarding rates relief from South Ayrshire Council she said:

‘I very much welcome the £2million of Regional Selective Assistance towards the £10million costs of this project put in by the Scottish Executive.  Up to a further £ ½ million will be made available from Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire for training purposes.  As I understand it this brings the project to the maximum amount allowable within state aid rules.  I will have further discussions with Ryanair, however, South Ayrshire Council must work within the legislation and as things stand they do not have the power to grant rates relief in this area.’
