Local Lifeboat Team Honoured By House Of Commons Speaker
Every year the Speaker of the House Of Commons, Rt Hon Michael Martin makes a personal nomination for the work of a charity of his choice to be honoured with a Reception in the Speakers House in the Houses of Parliament in recognition of the work they do on behalf of the community.
This year the Speaker chose RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute) for this honour after he visited the Lifeboat Station at Girvan and was impressed by the work of the local team.
Local Coxswain Stewart Moffat attended with his wife Carol and local MP, Sandra Osborne.
Sandra said,
“Michael is a regular visitor to Girvan since he has family in the area. He loves the Ayrshire Coast. It was a great honour for me to be invited to accompany Mr. and Mrs. Moffat. I was very proud when the Speaker paid particular tribute in his speech to the Girvan Team. He also spoke fondly of his visits to Girvan – a great advert for the area. He certainly gave fitting recognition to our local RNLI volunteers and supporters.”
