Minister for Communities Visits Ayr Constituency
Margaret Curran MSP minister for Communities is visiting Ayr Constituency today - Monday 22nd March in response to an invitation from Sandra Osborne MP.
The visit will focus on progress in dealing with antisocial behaviour.
Margaret will take part in a short walkabout to see and hear from local community activists about the existing and planned improvements in the Wallacetown area. The area is the focus of a number of the new Antisocial Behaviour Initiatives promoted by the Scottish Executive. It will be one of the first areas of Ayr to have Community Support Officers. There is also an innovative plan to work with young people through a street worker project. The South Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership (S.A. Council, Strathclyde Police and Fire Service, NHS A&A) have worked closely with local people to develop these schemes and encourage the community to sign up to a Neighbourhood Agreement.
Margaret is visiting Arran Park to see the success of two years of multi-agency working led by South Ayrshire Council Social Justice Dept. in tackling past problems caused by Antisocial Behaviour by supporting local residents.
Sandra said,
"Antisocial Behaviour can make life a misery for people and I congratulate the Scottish Executive on the resources they have committed to tackling these problems. Locally we have a number of good examples of joint working led by South Ayrshire Council which have been a success in dealing with these problems".
