SANDRA OSBORNE MP welcomes Police action to target youth disorder

Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock Constituency MP, Sandra Osborne, has welcomed the response of Strathclyde Police to youth disorder in parts of North Ayr.
Sandra said:
‘I was contacted by some of my constituents from North Ayr a few weeks ago. They had reached breaking point. They were being tormented by large groups of youths acting in a disorderly manner. House and car windows had been smashed.
I visited the area to see for myself and was shocked to see the damage that had been caused. I immediately contacted Superintendent Stevens. In response to my request for Police action, he has arranged for extra Police Officers to be deployed in the area. Special attention will be paid to areas where vacant properties awaiting redevelopment are attracting the attention of vandals.
South Ayrshire Council Anti Social Behaviour Team will also be working with 13 of the youths to try to encourage them to take part in sport and other activities and 5 of the worst offenders have been charged by the Police.
It is not acceptable for people’s lives to be made a misery because of Anti Social Behaviour. I am pleased that the Council and the Police are using their new powers to the full to stamp out this menace.’
This weekend Sandra and her Labour colleagues paid a follow-up visit to local residents to provide them with an update on police action and met with Mrs Betty Martin MBE who has suffered from anti social behaviour when her door was kicked in, in November.
Sandra said:
‘Betty received an MBE for service to the community. She suffered a serious stroke some time ago and does not deserve to suffer from this type of behaviour.
Of course, not all youths in North Ayr misbehave. I also had discussions with local youths about access to football training and youth facilities.’
