Sandra Osborne MP delighted at visit by Pensions Minister to Ayr

AYR MP SANDRA OSBORNE has expressed her satisfaction that Malcolm Wicks Minister for Pensions is visiting Ayr on Monday 12 July to fulfil a promise made to the Scottish Pensions Summit late last year. He will meet with representatives of those affected by the UEF pension situation at Scottish Stampings.

He will also congratulate Sandra on her constituency campaign to encourage uptake of Pensions Credits. Sandra has worked closely with the local Pension Service in a programme of visits to older peoples’ accommodation. She has hosted more than 25 information meetings and has made contact with over 1000 pensioners.

Sandra said:
“I am pleased to welcome the Minister to my constituency. We have made considerable progress in our campaign to right the wrongs for UEF workers. We must recognise that while Malcolm Wicks and his team are starting to address the problems caused by company liquidations, there is still some way to go. We still need the details of how much assistance people affected will actually get.

With regard to Pensions Credits, I join the Minister in urging  all pensioners to apply – all it takes is a phone call to the Pension Credit Application Line using free phone number 0800 991234. If the application is in before October, the claim can be backdated to October 2003. It is well worth the effort - some Pensioners will be better of by £20 or more per week.”
