SANDRA OSBORNE MP and Cathy Jamieson MSP comment on closure of Cumnock office and warehouse by the Original Shoe Co

Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP, Sandra Osborne and Cathy Jamieson MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley have expressed their shock at the announcement that the Original Shoe Company proposes to close its Cumnock office and warehouse base.
Sandra said,
‘Along with my Council and MSP colleagues, I have been in touch with the Company as soon as I heard the news and we have arranged to meet with David Hammond this week.
I understand from Jobcentre Plus that 98 people are likely to be made redundant and I have asked them to act quickly to do all they can to help those affected to get alternative employment.
I have discussed the situation with East Ayrshire Council and along with Cathy, I am pressing Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire to look at what can be done to attract  more jobs to the area.
We are all anxious about the loss of so many jobs and will make every effort to support those affected’

Cathy Jamieson MSP said:
‘This is a very disappointing announcement and will cause great concern among the staff and their families.  I will continue to work closely with Sandra Osborne MP to ensure that everything possible is done to help the staff affected by this announcement.  I have been in contact with Scottish Enterprise and both Sandra and I have asked for an urgent meeting with the management of Original Shoe before the end of the week.’
