SANDRA OSBORNE MP SUPPORTS CARERS RIGHTS DAY
Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP, Sandra Osborne, met with representatives of local carers in support of Carers Rights Day on Friday 8 December.
Sandra said,
“The focus of this year is to ensure that carers are aware of, and apply for, the benefits and other support to which they are entitled. Currently £60 million per year goes unclaimed in Carers Allowance and I believe it is encumbent on all local authorities, health boards, voluntary sector organisations and employers to ensure that carers are identified and supported according to their needs.
Whilst caring has never received the recognition it deserves, improvements have been made to benefits. With many carers also working, new parental leave rights and flexible working are positive developments.
I was pleased to meet with local carers to discuss their concerns and I congratulate all carers on the work they do throughout the year.”
