Sandra Osborne MP delighted that HMS Gannet base retained
Ayr MP Sandra Osborne has expressed her satisfaction with the decision of the Ministry of Defence to retain the two Search and Rescue aircraft and crews based at HMS GANNET in Prestwick.
Sandra said:
“There was a great deal of speculation on the impact on the Ministry of Defence of the 2004 Spending Review. Scotland, and Ayrshire benefits greatly from MoD spending and the announcement of increased spending of £3.7 billion across the UK is good news.
The retention of the Search and Rescue function at HMS Gannet is particularly important to my constituency. I am glad that the value of the service they offer has been acknowledged in the MoD Review of Operational Requirements.
The Search and Rescue crews at HMS Gannet are often the busiest crews in the UK. They provide a first class service - usually in difficult and dangerous conditions.”
