Sale of BAE Aerostructures fallen through

Ayr MP Sandra Osborne has expressed shock and disappointment that the proposed sale of BAE Aerostructures at Prestwick has fallen through.

She said:

"We have been informed throughout that the sale of aerostructures represented the best way forward to retain and grow the business. I am therefore both surprised and disappointed at this outcome.

"I have been informed, however, by management that the future of aerostructures was not wholly dependent on a sale and BAE Systems always made it clear they were not prepared to sell the business at less than its true value. I have also been told that the business is fairly stable for the next 3 - 5 years and the management will now consider the way ahead. I would expect to have an indication of their plans within the next 6 weeks but I will be working with the Trade Union to press for further investment, since BAE Systems have cancelled the sale, with Government support if necessary.

"It is of particular disappointment that yet again the morale of the workforce will be hit at this time of year."
