Sandra Osborne MP Meets With Clydesdale Bank.
Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP, Sandra Osborne, has met with the Clydesdale Bank in London following their announcement that they are closing the Girvan Branch.
Sandra said:
‘I am always concerned about any job losses and the withdrawal of local services. I have been informed that the Clydesdale is closing 64 branches due to a downturn in customer demand. The bank has failed to keep up with their competitors and the business has suffered from a lack of investment.
There have been no compulsory redundancies so far and a commitment has been given to consult with staff individually and accommodate them as far as possible.
Clydesdale Bank has linked with the Post Office. Customers will now be able to carry out their transactions there. 70% of bank customers never actually went into their local branch and the main regular users, such as elderly people, are the same people who tend to use their local Post Office. I have been informed that the bank will provide advice to their customers on using the Post Office. The availability of banking services is a positive factor in promoting the viability of the Post Office network especially in rural areas.
I welcome this but I remain disappointed at the loss of a local branch presence which does not help to preserve the vibrancy of the town centre.’
