Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP Welcomes the Success of the Campaign to Save Dumfries House for the Nation
Sandra said:
‘I was absolutely delighted, following my motion in support in the House of Commons, to be informed that Dumfries House has been saved for the nation and for public enjoyment. It will make a great contribution to tourism in Ayrshire and will bring employment opportunities to the Cumnock area.
I congratulate the SAVE Britain’s Heritage campaign on saving Dumfries House at the eleventh hour through public and private contributors including HRH the Prince of Wales and it is a tremendous achievement that this unique part of Scotland’s heritage will for the first time be open to the public.
It is ironic that the SNP led Scottish Executive were short sighted in not seeing the importance of Dumfries House and its contents to Scotland and we were dependent on the UK based National Heritage Memorial Fund as a ‘fund of last resort’ to come to the rescue. This is a good example of how Ayrshire benefits from being part of the United Kingdom.
