Local MP welcomes success of Strathclyde Concession Scheme

Sandra Osborne has welcomed the success of the Strathclyde Concession Scheme which gives free travel to elderly passengers.

She said: 
'The scheme itself has been widely welcomed by the public but there has already been important additional benefits.

As a result of its great success Stagecoach have added 35 vehicles in to the service network and improved the range and frequency of routes.  This has resulted in 100 new jobs in Ayrshire.  Brian Souter, the Chief Executive of Stagecoach, in a letter copied to me has called the scheme 'one of the most astute political moves in terms of social inclusion benefits per pound of public expenditure'.  I couldn't agree more and congratulate the Scottish Executive on its initiative and the real benefits it has already brought to Ayrshire.'
