Sandra Osborne MP assassinated by Westminster death squad
Sandra Osborne MP along with 12 trade union General Secretaries, and a former minister were assassinated outside Parliament last week for protesting against the UK Government's continued military assistance to Colombia.
The mock execution was organised by campaign charity War on Want and trade union solidarity group Justice for Colombia. Sandra and some MP colleagues joined General Secretaries from 12 trade unions on College Green opposite Parliament to highlight the terror campaign being waged against the Colombian trade union movement.
The executions were timed to coincide with the opening day of a UK-convened aid summit on Colombia, which NGOs and trade unions in Colombia fear will channel humanitarian assistance away from civil society.
Commenting on the planned protest, Sandra said: ‘There should be no UK military aid to the Colombian Government who have a terrible human rights record and have links with the right wing death squads. All aid should be for humanitarian purposes and have strict conditions attached. I visited Colombia myself a couple of years ago under the auspices of Christian Aid and saw at first hand the suffering of the thousands of dispossesed people who have had to leave their homelands because of the civil war.'
