Ayr MP Sandra Osborne calls for Jobcentre Plus services to stay in Troon

Following the publication by Jobcentreplus of a draft service delivery plan, Ayr MP Sandra Osborne has voiced her opposition to the possibility of withdrawal of services from Troon with the closure of Troon Jobcentre.

She said:

"While I appreciate that the new Jobcentre Plus service will be a hugely positive development with a more joined up personal and supportive service, I am extremely concerned about any reduction in services in Troon. I have been informed that the current premises are not suitable for the new service which brings jobsearch advice and services for employers, currently provided by Jobcentres, and benefits advice, currently provided by social security offices, under one roof. If that is the case I will be looking for an alternative to be provided locally.

"Of particular concern is the fact that people can currently register every fortnight locally at Troon Jobcentre whereas under the new proposals they would need to travel to Ayr or Irvine. I believe the increased cost to people who are unemployed would be unacceptable. I am also unhappy at a three-week consultation period albeit there will be further opportunities at a later date and I have asked Jobcentreplus to widen their consultation to include community groups in Troon. I will meet with them again shortly and have raised my concerns with the Minister for Work."
