Helen Jones, the MP for Warrington North, welcomes you to her homepage at ePolitix.com and thanks you for your interest in the Warrington North constituency.
Since she was elected in 1997, HELEN JONES, MP for Warrington North
has worked hard locally. A fully staffed office has been set up in Warrington and she has dealt with queries and problems from thousands of people who have contacted her by letter, telephone, and e-mail or through her regular surgeries.
Helen Jones has established a well-deserved reputation as a hard working constituency MP and as a tough, energetic campaigner who gets results for local people.
Helen writes: “In 1997, you elected me as the MP for Warrington North.
“Warrington has gained a lot from the Labour government and I am proud of what we have achieved. Unemployment in Warrington North has fallen by over 50% since 1997 (with long term unemployment falling by over 80%) and many of our young people have found jobs through the New Deal. Long term youth unemployment is down by over three quarters. Mortgages are in the lowest for years and increases in child benefit and the new children’s tax credit are giving real help to hard working families.
“I live in the constituency and I know our local schools have been given a real boost with extra money for repairs and new buildings, direct grants for heads to spend as they wish and money to reduce class sizes for our youngest children. Our local health service has received money for the modernisation of A&E at Warrington Hospital and NHS Direct is available to all. Thousands of pensioners have benefited from the introduction of free eye tests. In addition, pensioners now receive a Winter Fuel Allowance (£200 or £300 for every household with a pensioner over 80, plus an additional £100 to all pensioner households to assist with their council tax payments) and free TV licences for the over 75s.
“I believe a lot has been done, but there is still much more to do.”
