MP Welcomes News On New Culceth Youth Centre But Says Youngster Should Be Involved
Warrington North MP HELEN JONES has welcomed the news that the borough council have agreed to go ahead with a new, improved facility in Shaw Street. The MP had called for the council to commit itself to such a project following news late last year that plans for a proposed health centre and youth facility had been dropped.
Welcoming the decision HELEN JONES said:
“This is very good news for Culcheth. The existing youth club is over twenty years old and is not designed or equipped to meet the needs of our young people in 2006 so the announcement that a new centre will be built on the Shaw Street site is very welcome. I do however hope that the borough council and youth service will consult and listen to the wishes of our young people. They are the ones who will use the facility and they should be part of the process which decides what is on offer at the new centre. Every wishcannot be met but we of the older generation should not assume we know what our young people want in their youth clubs and should be consulting now with the young people of the area before final plans are drawn up."
