MP wages war on mini bikes
HELEN JONES is calling on the Government to ban the use of mini bikes by those under 16. The MP has tabled a Commons Motion which asks for a clarification of the law to ensure that mini bikes are clearly defined as motor vehicles and to prevent their sale or use by children aged under 16.
HELEN JONES said: “ Mini bikes are becoming a real nuisance in our local neighbourhoods. The incidence of anti-social behaviour and accidents associated with these bikes are increasing. Unfortunately young people are causing mayhem by riding these bikes on the road and pavements. The police already have seizure powers but I think the law needs to be clarified further so that these motor vehicles, because that is what they are, cannot be used or sold to under 16s. I hope the Government will take the appropriate action. “
