MP Welcome New Regiment Name
Warrington North MP HELEN JONES has welcomed the decision to name the newly merged North West Regiment the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment rather than, as was originally proposed, the King’s Lancashire and Border Regiment. The new regiment is made up of a merger between the Queens’ Lancashire Regiment, the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment and the King’s Regiment.
HELEN JONES said:
"I welcome the rethink on the name. The original proposal was too unwieldy and did not reflect the true strength of the merged regiment. The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment is a much more appropriate name. In addition it is a name which recognises the Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment as the Queen, who holds the title of Duke of Lancaster.
I am sure that the new regiment will serve with honour and distinction in the future."
