MP Encourages Local Children To Get Talking About Cancer
Warrington North MP HELEN JONES is encouraging children and young people in Warrington to get involved in Macmillan Cancer Relief’s educational initiative, Cancertalk Week (23-27 January) and The Big Hush, Macmillan’s annual fundraising events for schools on Friday 27 January.
Each year over 1500 children are diagnosed with cancer and although the majority of them will recover, the disease is still surrounded by fear and misconceptions. By getting involved in activities throughout the Week, such as lessons focusing on cancer or The Big Hush, children can find out the truth about the disease that affects 1 in 3 of us.
Money raised by The Big Hush will help fund specialist nurses and doctors; build vitally needed cancer care centres; give financial help to those who need it most and provide a range of cancer information both locally and nationally.
HELEN JONES said:
"I want to encourage people to get involved in this excellent week of events. More than a million people in the UK today have had a cancer diagnosis and many young people will have experience of cancer either personally or through a relative, friend or teacher. It’s vital that we dispel some of the myths surrounding it so that children and young people are better equipped to understand the disease and can support their friends and family. What better way to do it than by raising money for such a great cause at the same time."
