MP asks council to think again about decision to cancel organised firework displays on bonfire night
Warrington North MP HELEN JONES has called on Warrington Borough Council to think again about its decision to cancel organised firework displays this bonfire night.
The MP conducted a firework survey a couple of years ago and the overwhelming view of her constituents was that fireworks should be banned from sale to individuals but that organised public displays should continue.
HELEN JONES, who has long championed organised firework displays said: " Organised displays are by far the best way for people to enjoy bonfire night. They can provide a truly spectacular show and, because they are properly supervised, are the safest way to enjoy fireworks. I have attended the annual Birchwood display with my family regularly and am very disappointed to hear that it, and others around the town, are to be cancelled. If the borough council have cancelled the event for health and safety reasons they should think again. I know that the emergency services, not least the fire service, would always recommend communities have organised displays rather than individuals setting off fireworks and lighting bonfires in their own gardens.
