Ann Begins new term at Aquinas

Pictured with Ann Coffey are Aquinas students Carly, Sam, Vicki, Wes, Will and Lewis, taking a break to speak to Ann about their plans for the forthcoming academic year

Stockport MP Ann Coffey dropped into Aquinas College last week at the beginning of the new term to meet students who are just beginning their final sixth form year.

With excellent AS exam grades behind them, the students are now looking forward to the year ahead. As well as working hard for their A levels, this group, pictured in the attached photo, are closely involved in linking Aquinas to school in India through the Aquinas India Project (AIP).  They hope to go to India for two weeks next February to teach young children in Mumbai.

This project, set up in 2003, has already raised over £40,000 to help underprivileged children in India to get an education.  Earlier this year 60 Aquinas students went to India for two weeks to work with children as young as five years old in Mumbai.  The Aquinas project will continue to raise funds to support these children into full-time education under they are 16.

Ann Coffey said:

“Every child deserves to go to school.  It’s so good to see these students from Aquinas doing what they can to give street children in India a chance at education.”

Eddie Moore, Vice Principal of Aquinas College said:

“The students’ response has been fantastic, the India Project has really caught their imagination.  However despite their wonderful generosity, our students gain far more than they give.”
