• Married. One daughter.

• BSc in Sociology, South Bank University. MSc in Psychiatric Social Work, University of Manchester.

• Prior to entering Parliament was a Social Worker Team Leader with responsibility for fostering and adoption.

Parliamentary Career

• MP for Stockport since 1992.

• Member, Modernisation Select Committee.

• PPS to Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry
