MASSIVE CASH INJECTION FOR STOCKPORT SCHOOLS
Schools in Stockport are set to receive almost £53 million of new investment in state- of -the -art classrooms, arts, sports and ICT facilities over the next three years, Ann Coffey revealed today.
Ms Coffey welcomed the funding boost for local schools and said that it was part of the biggest sustained investment in schools for a generation.
Unveiling the local figures, she said that Stockport’s share of the £21.9 billion for capital investment in schools announced in the government’s Comprehensive Spending Review meant that Stockport will receive the second biggest real terms percentage increase of all of Greater Manchester’s boroughs.
Ms Coffey revealed that Stockport local authority will get £52,797 million for funding for schools capital over the next three years and that every school would benefit.
Ms Coffey said: “Since 1996, when the cash available for school capital improvements for all the schools in Stockport was £1.58 million, we have seen increased funding year on year. Of course, more is still needed but I welcome this very significant funding for the next three years.”
“Of all the Greater Manchester boroughs Stockport has received the second largest percentage increase since 1996.”
“In the year 2010/11 alone we will be investing £23,369,700 in Stockport on new classrooms, school buildings and IT facilities. That’s 938 per cent more than in 1996/97. In the Greater Manchester area, only Bury will see a higher percentage increase.”
