MP Welcomes more cash for Children’s Centres

MP Ann Coffey has welcomed the government announcement of over £17 million for Sure Start Children’s Centres, early years education and childcare in Stockport.

Stockport Council will receive £17,420,407 over the next three years, including £10,870,861 to expand the number of children’s centres in the town.

Ann Coffey said:  “I am delighted by this announcement of substantial investment in Stockport.  It will hugely benefit children, parents and families. We all know that the early years of a child’s life are crucial for their development and future success. I know from visiting the children’s centres in Adswood and Brinnington how much difference Sure Start is making to the lives of families.  It’s all about having all the services – childcare, early education, support and advice for parents, health – all accessible locally to everyone in the area.”

Ann continued:  “I’m very pleased to see that some of this funding is for more outreach work. Children’s Centres will be able to reach out to more families who are not yet taking advantage of the services on offer, as well as particular groups like fathers or parents of disabled children.”
