MP helps schools get Free Chess Sets

Stockport MP Ann Coffey has written to all the schools in her constituency this week to tell them about an offer of free chess sets for all from the English Chess Federation.

Following a recent meeting in the House of Commons, the English Chess Federation is inviting schools to be part of their scheme to encourage chess in schools, which is sponsored by Holloid Plastics Ltd.

250,000 chess sets are being offered to schools in England, with parcels of ten sets distributed to schools on a “first come first served” basis.

Ann Coffey said:

“Chess is a great game to learn when you are young. I was thrilled to hear about this generous scheme, and I have hastened to write to all schools in my constituency to tell them about the offer. I hope it will encourage lots more Stockport children to take up chess through school clubs and I look forward to hearing from local schools who want to receive the free sets.”
