Neighbourhood Renewal Unit

The Neighbourhood Renewal Unit is a cross-cutting government unit based in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. It was established in April 2001 to drive through the implementation of the Government's national strategy for neighbourhood renewal. The Government's aim is to narrow the gap between the poorest neighbourhoods and the rest over the next 10 to 20 years so that no-one is seriously disadvantaged by where they live. The NRU is responsible for delivering programmes such as the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (NRF), the New Deal for Communities (NDC), the Neighbourhood and Street Wardens programme, and other schemes designed to help communities reverse decline and deprivation.
