Commitment to the environment
|
 Johnson Matthey places high priority on its responsibility for the environment and for the health and safety of its employees, customers and the community. As a high technology company operating in growth markets around the world we believe that we have an important role to play in the promotion of sound environmental management of the Earth's resources. We have formalised our commitment to the environment by ensuring that environmental issues are represented at Board level and that all employees are aware of their environmental responsibilities.
Progress against our environmental objectives is monitored by regular audits. We seek to achieve continuous improvement of our environmental systems and controls. Many of our global businesses are subject to audit by customers. The evaluation of environmental management systems and performance often forms a key and mutually beneficial element of this customer audit process.
Johnson Matthey believes that environmental impacts are most effectively managed at the local level. We therefore require that each of our locations around the world formulates its own detailed arrangements, including performance targets, to meet the key objectives set out in our Corporate Environmental Policy. This policy is regularly reviewed and is published in our Annual Report.
