IoD Appoints New Chairman

Dr Neville Bain has been appointed as the next Chairman of the Institute of Directors (IoD).  He will formally take up the position on 1st May replacing current Chairman, Christopher Beale, who stands down after five years.

An experienced corporate figure, Neville is currently Chairman of the business services company, Hogg Robinson.  During his career he has held international general management positions with Cadbury Schweppes and Coats Viyella, while non executive roles have included Safeway and Scottish and Newcastle.

He has been on the Board of the IoD since 1997 and has already chaired several internal committees. Looking forward to his term in office Dr Bain said:

“I am looking forward to the role and working with the team, in the best interests of members, to provide quality services and opportunities for director improvement.”

Originally from New Zealand, Neville, a Chartered Accountant, began his executive career as a Finance Director. He also holds a Masters Degree in Commerce and a Doctorate in Law. Married with three children, he now lives in Surrey.

Welcoming his appointment, Director General, Miles Templeman, said:

“We are very pleased Neville has accepted the role of Chairman. He has contributed significantly to various IoD committees over the years and we look forward to benefiting from his experience. Our sincere thanks also go to Christopher who has steered the IoD through a number of years of successful development."
