The brigade protects an area of over 3,885 square kilometres and over 1.6 million people.Hampshire is the largest County Fire and Rescue Service in the United Kingdom. It protects an area of over 3,885 square kilometres with a population of over 1.6 million people. The Brigade has 768 wholetime firefighters, 702 part-time (volunteer) firefighters and 210 support staff. Much of the work is governed by Statute (eg Fire Services Act 2004, Fire Precautions Act 1971) with supplementary standards being locally set through our Integrated Risk Management Plan which is monitored by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM).

Our aim is to make Hampshire safer by:

  • Every premises and area in the County has been assessed for fire risk and graded accordingly.Preventing fires from occurring
  • Responding to fires and other emergencies
  • Responding to terrorist attacks and other civil emergencies
  • Investigating fires
  • The giving of free fire prevention advice on request and the enforcement of fire safety legislation
  • Inter-county arrangements for mutual assistance
  • The provision of an operational fire brigade and equipment
  • Training of fire brigade members
  • Emergency communications system to receive and deal with calls for assistance
  • Pre-planning for firefighting
  • Mitigation of damage through firefighting operations
  • Provision of water supplies for firefighting
