 Mission Statement
Our vision is for a society where older people are valued and respected, where they have choice and control over their lives and when they need help, our vision is for it to be delivered in an appropriate, flexible and supportive way.
Our mission is to make these hopes a reality by providing direct services to older people that give them the support needed to make informed choices. We do this by:
- providing advice, information and casework
- researching and developing new services that increase choice
- providing training and support that improves the quality of care
- advocating for improvements in laws and services affecting older people
Background
Counsel and Care, originally the Elderly Invalids Fund, is a charitable organisation providing advice and practical help to older people and their carers. It was founded in the early 1950's in response to the fact that large numbers of older people were trapped in hospital beds because they could not afford the cost of nursing care, either at home or in a nursing home.
Counsel and Care therefore developed an advisory and grant aiding service, originally to help older people obtain and fund places in private and voluntary residential care and nursing homes. This service has expanded to cover a wide range of problems faced by older people.
