Why Beef and Sheep Farming Matters (leaflet)
We are supporting a campaign by the National Farmers' Union: Why Beef and Sheep Farming Matters. The campaign launched in November 2007 is urging stores to ensure that UK farmers receive a fair price for beef and sheep, without this much needed support the livelihood of farmers and the work they do in maintaining the character of the countryside could be at risk. This leaflet explains why beef and sheep farming matters for consumers, farmers and the countryside and what you can do.

CPRE's response to the Housing Green Paper
Our response to the Government's proposals to increase housing supply acknowledges that more homes are needed and welcomes increased targets for green, affordable housing on brownfield land. The response makes recommendations to help ensure that new development delivers public benefits with minimal harm to the environment.

Natural England One Year On
An assessment by CPRE of Natural England's first year
Our report on Natural England one year on, finds it has made progress but still has a long way to go in becoming an effective champion to protect the future of our countryside. We’ve found that Natural England has worked well on getting funding for farmers to protect landscape features and wildlife but it needs to do more at a strategic level including better support for the planning system.

Planning for Housing Affordability
Why providing more land for housebuilding will not reduce house prices
We commissioned independent consultants Green Balance to conduct research into the relationship between planning, housing land supply and housing affordability. Our research found that increasing the supply of land for housing would make little difference to housebuilding rates or house prices. The report makes some recommendations which need to be reflected in future Government policy on housing needs.

Developing an Intrusion Map of England
Prepared for CPRE by Land Use Consultants
We have developed a method of mapping areas of intrusion in England. These are areas disturbed by the presence of noise and visual intrusion from major infrastructure such as motorways and A roads, urban areas and airports. The resulting maps show the extent of intrusion in the early 1960s, early 1990s and 2007. This technical report explains how we created our intrusion maps. It gives the distance thresholds which define areas of intrusion and lists the national datasets used. It also includes full statistical tables of areas disturbed and as yet undisturbed by noise and visual intrusion for each time period for England, its regions, counties and unitary authorities.

How Green is my Region?
PDF (2Mb)
Our briefing summarises our findings from our report Environmental Sustainability and English Regional Strategies which compared the progress of England's nine regions in the sustainability stakes. Our research found that there are some good green policies in each of England's nine regions. But overall each region is being held back by having to comply with central Government requirements to adopt environmentally damaging policies and trends.
